The Journal of Applied Science & Engineering Materials (JASEM) is a fully open-access scholarly journal.

All research articles and other scholarly content published by JASEM are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication. Readers may access, read, download, copy, search, link to, and use the published content without subscription, registration, or payment barriers.

JASEM does not apply an embargo period to published articles.

1. Open Access Commitment

JASEM supports the unrestricted dissemination of scientific knowledge and seeks to maximise the accessibility, visibility, discoverability, and reuse of published research.

The journal’s open-access model is intended to facilitate:

• global access to scientific and technical knowledge;
• the dissemination of research across academic, industrial, and professional communities;
• interdisciplinary and international scientific collaboration;
• the responsible reuse of published findings;
• text and data mining;
• educational and research use;
• translation and adaptation;
• innovation and knowledge transfer between academia and industry; and
• the long-term visibility of published scholarly work.

Access to JASEM content is not restricted according to institutional affiliation, geographic location, professional status, or ability to pay.

2. Creative Commons Licence

Unless otherwise stated, articles published in JASEM are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0).

Under this licence, users are permitted to:

• share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format;
• adapt — remix, transform, translate, and build upon the material;
• use the material for research, educational, professional, technological, commercial, or non-commercial purposes; and
• combine the material with other works or use it in the development of new content, methods, services, and applications.

These permissions apply provided that users comply with the attribution requirements of the licence.

CC BY 4.0 permits sharing and adaptation for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given.

3. Attribution Requirements

Users reusing JASEM content must:

• give appropriate credit to the author or authors;
• identify JASEM as the original place of publication;
• provide the title of the published article where appropriate;
• include the article’s DOI or another persistent link to the original publication;
• provide a link to the CC BY 4.0 licence;
• indicate whether any changes, translations, adaptations, or modifications have been made; and
• avoid implying that the authors, editors, journal, or publisher endorse the user or the reuse.

An appropriate attribution should, wherever possible, identify the title, author, source, and licence.

4. Permitted Reuse

Subject to proper attribution and any applicable third-party rights, users may:

• reproduce an article in whole or in part;
• distribute printed or electronic copies;
• include published material in repositories, databases, catalogues, and discovery systems;
• translate an article into another language;
• adapt figures, tables, diagrams, and other content;
• use published content in teaching and training materials;
• include content in books, reports, reviews, presentations, and derivative publications;
• conduct automated text and data mining;
• use published content in computational research and machine-learning workflows;
• develop commercial or non-commercial products and services based on the material; and
• create derivative works based on the published content.

Users do not need to obtain separate permission from JASEM for activities already permitted under CC BY 4.0.

5. Commercial Use

CC BY 4.0 permits both commercial and non-commercial reuse.

Commercial use does not remove the requirement to:

• provide appropriate attribution;
• link to the licence;
• identify modifications; and
• respect copyright, moral rights, privacy rights, database rights, patent rights, trademark rights, and third-party permissions that may apply.

Neither the journal nor the authors endorse a commercial product or service merely because JASEM content has been reused in it.

6. Adaptations and Translations

Users may adapt, transform, abridge, expand, annotate, or translate published JASEM content under CC BY 4.0.

Any adaptation must:

• acknowledge the original authors and publication;
• include a link to the original article;
• identify the applicable CC BY 4.0 licence;
• state clearly that the material has been adapted or translated; and
• avoid presenting the adaptation as the original Version of Record.

Responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of a translation or adaptation rests with the person or organisation producing it unless the authors or JASEM have formally approved that version.

7. Text and Data Mining

JASEM permits text and data mining of its published content for research, educational, technological, commercial, and non-commercial purposes in accordance with CC BY 4.0.

Users may analyse published content through automated and computational methods, including:

• bibliometric analysis;
• systematic evidence synthesis;
• natural language processing;
• machine learning;
• artificial intelligence;
• information extraction;
• metadata analysis; and
• scientific knowledge discovery.

The source articles must be appropriately attributed where their content or findings are reproduced, reported, or incorporated into a subsequent output.

Access methods must not interfere with the security, availability, or normal operation of the journal website.

8. Copyright and Publishing Rights

Authors retain the copyright in their published articles.

By publishing with JASEM, authors grant the journal and its publisher the non-exclusive right of first publication and the right to identify JASEM as the original publisher of the work.

The CC BY 4.0 licence governs how readers and other users may reuse the published material. It does not transfer copyright ownership from the authors to the journal or to users.

Detailed provisions concerning copyright ownership, publication rights, author responsibilities, permissions, and third-party content are provided in the journal’s Copyright Notice.

Allowing authors to retain copyright while granting the journal a non-exclusive right of first publication is consistent with DOAJ’s recommended open-access practice.

9. Author Self-Archiving

JASEM permits authors to deposit and share their manuscripts without an embargo period.

Authors may archive:

• the submitted manuscript or preprint;
• the author-accepted manuscript; and
• the final published Version of Record.

These versions may be deposited in:

• institutional repositories;
• subject-based repositories;
• funder-designated repositories;
• personal academic websites;
• recognised preprint platforms; and
• other lawful scholarly-sharing platforms.

When depositing the Version of Record, authors should include:

• the complete citation;
• the article DOI or permanent link;
• a statement identifying JASEM as the original publisher; and
• the CC BY 4.0 licence information.

Where an earlier version was deposited before publication, authors are encouraged to update the repository record with the citation and DOI of the final published article.

10. Third-Party Material

The CC BY 4.0 licence applies only to material for which the authors or publisher have the authority to grant that licence.

Figures, tables, photographs, datasets, maps, standards, excerpts, trademarks, or other third-party material included in an article may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions.

Material not covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 licence must be clearly identified through an appropriate credit line or notice.

Users wishing to reuse excluded third-party material are responsible for:

• determining its copyright status;
• complying with the licence or permission under which it was included;
• obtaining permission from the relevant copyright holder where required; and
• complying with applicable legal exceptions and limitations.

The presence of third-party material in an open-access article does not automatically place that material under CC BY 4.0. DOAJ similarly recommends that material excluded from an article’s open licence be clearly marked.

11. Data, Software, and Supplementary Material

Supplementary material created by the authors is covered by CC BY 4.0 unless a different licence is clearly stated.

Research data, databases, software, source code, models, and other technical materials may be distributed under separate licences that are more appropriate to their format. Any separate licence must be identified clearly in the article, repository record, or supplementary file.

Authors must ensure that they have the legal authority to apply the stated licence to any data, code, images, or other materials accompanying their article.

12. No Additional Restrictions

Users may not impose legal terms, digital rights management, access controls, or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the permissions granted by CC BY 4.0.

Reuse conditions must not contradict or restrict the official terms of the licence.

The licence does not affect uses that are independently permitted under applicable copyright exceptions, limitations, or public-domain rules.

13. Licence Display and Metadata

JASEM displays or embeds the applicable open-access licence:

• on the Open Access Policy page;
• in the full text of each published article;
• in article PDF files;
• on article landing pages;
• in article-level metadata where technically supported; and
• in relevant repository and indexing records.

The copyright holder and licence applicable to each article should be clearly identifiable independently of the general copyright conditions governing the journal website.

Displaying licensing information in the article text, PDF and metadata supports transparent reuse and aligns with recognised open-access publishing practices.

14. Permanence of Open Access

Articles published by JASEM as open-access content will remain openly accessible.

The journal will not retrospectively place published open-access articles behind a subscription, registration, payment, or embargo barrier.

Once CC BY 4.0 has been validly applied to published material, the permissions granted under the licence cannot be withdrawn from users who comply with its terms.

15. Relationship with Other Journal Policies

This Open Access Policy should be read together with the journal’s:

• Publication Policy;
• Copyright Notice;
• Author Guidelines; and
• Publication Ethics.

Where content contains material governed by separate legal or licensing conditions, the specific notice attached to that material takes precedence for that material only.
